This set of stamps was issued by the fairly new country of Yugoslavia in 1921 to raise funds for the Disabled Soldiers' Fund. Unfortunately, the lowest value is damaged and I'll have to find a replacement but as I was scanning them today, I thought I'd show them. The only production details I have is that they were printed by the American Bank Note Company. SG 178-180 Scott B1-B3. Kosovo Maiden 1389 Retreat through Albania 1915 Symbol of National Unity |

jorgesurcl, I just put that stamp into the database today and found the article about the "Napoleon" issue in the Chilean society newsletter when looking up Arias. I had no details of engraver so once again, thank you. I'm sure you will be aware of the article I mean but for others, you can find it here. http://www.youblisher.com/p/602846-...alist-no-57/ There is also a great article about the "war" between ABNCo and Waterlow at the time. |

Is there any lectures, meetings, or events for engraved stamp collectors at the UPS World Stamp Show 2016? I have been looking around and have not seen any thing besides classic collecting meeting?

I want to make 2 corrections about information which I gave earlier : 1) The first name of the engraver Harry P. Dawson is Harold P. Dawson and not Herbert P. Dawson 2) The vignette of this stamp from Panama was engraved by William Jung and not William F. Ford. Frame & lettering engraved by Struve |

I've decided to finally bite the bullet and start on adding Czechoslovakia to the database. I've been overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of engraved stamps issued by this country so I've decided to simply start at the beginning of the catalogue and work through. (This is a lot more organised than my usual approach. ) I have about five hundred Czechoslovakian stamps spread over a fair range of engravers and they contain some real masterpieces. This one comes from a miniature sheet which contained the current definitive in 1946. It was issued for a major stamp exhibition and the main building seen is the town Hall at Brno where the exhibition was held. These were designed by Jan Charles Vondrous and engraved by Jindra Schmidt. After the second world war he apparently often signed his stamps as Jindra S. to move away from his German surname. Gibbons does not list printers after 1945 but hints that it may have been Grafia, Bratislava. I would appreciate any information on this. |
