Is anyone aware of a complete online list of the countries that Canada could send mail to under the pre war Empire Air Mail Scheme with the start dates. A list of the rates for using this scheme to send mail TO Canada would also be very useful.

Most on-line sources I have found only say the rate was 1 1/2 d but do not convert it into the local currency.

February 28, 1938 was the start date. The rate from Canada was 6c for the first half ounce.

Letters went surface to Great Britain, and air mail thereafter.

The 1-1/2d rate was from Great Britain, out to the Empire. If 1-1/2d was equal to 3c Canadian, then Canadians were paying an extra 3c to get a letter to GB on the water. I bet they were grumpy about that.

Any of our friends who are devotees of collecting the Great White North have a different take on this?

Thank you for the above. I have seen both of those before and I understand the way EAMS worked from Canada which those two covered. What I was looking for was a list of the rates for EAMS mail going going into the Canada. This would have been the same as EAMS rates to the UK.

There does not seem to be one collected authoritative list for these rates readily available.

I just wanted a couple of examples from less well known countries for my collection and thought the rates would be easy to find even if covers may not be.

Searching the web usually comes up with different rates depending on what site I find.

I love the use of the word scheme to describe the system. It's like they're up to something.
