The early (pre-"red" era) large-denomination documentaries that were printed in strips of 4, for the most part are not scarce as individual stamps. Intact strips of 4, on the other hand, can be quite elusive... uncut examples even more so.
This lot came up on Hipstamp and so I made an offer, and it was accepted.
Scott # R246, $30 Grant, catalogues $13 for an uncut single (2.25 for cut-canceled singles), but the uncut strip of 4 is unvalued. Idiotically, a cut strip of 4 is valued at $3.50 which is well under 4x the value of single cut stamps... which makes no sense; that must be an editorial error).
Scott # $247, $60 Lincoln, catalogues $8.00 for an uncut single ($0.85 for cut canceled). It too has no value listed for an uncut strip of 4, and yet it has a value for a cut strip of 4 at $5.00, which also doesn't make sense. It catalogues more than R246 as a cut strip when the base stamp value is less.
Regardless of the catalogue values, the appeal of this pair of strips is the matching clean well-placed handstamp cancels.
They may not catalogue much at the end of the day, but I challenge anyone to find an equivalent used pair...
