King Harald V Of Norway (1937-2026)

RIP King Harald V.



My collection of Norway doesn't include many stamps later than 1970, apart from this irresistible series of beautifully engraved definitives, but I hope that other collectors can add some stamps depicting the late King, and perhaps some that depict the Crown Prince who has succeeded him as King Haakon VIII.

King Harald V was an avid sailor and three times Olympian - he represented his country in sailing competitions at three Summer Olympics - in Tokyo (19640, Mexico City (1968) and in Munich in 1972. In Tokyo, he was a flag bearer at the opening ceremony.






The present king is also involved (though less actively) in the Olympic movement - at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Haakon lit the cauldron during the opening ceremony.
