It appears that the top stamp is missing colors. The stamp's greenish hue doesn't match the bottom correct stamp. Am I correct in thinking that it is missing some layers of color?
The first thing to look at is the Scott catalog. Your stamp does not list any color omitted errors, and your stamp is 50+ years old... Next thing is the problem which color is missing on your stamp,. It is yellow. Yellow is the first color that can disappear when a stamp is exposed to uv light, like an extensive sunbath. (There are chemical ways to remove a color like yellow or red as well). Your black cancel also looks faded as well, it is barely showing up anymore.
So most likely, your stamp was exposed to sunlight for too long and lost its yellow (a look under a microscope might show some remaining yellow dots). In conclusion: no Ferrari Testa Rossa for you....
