Long time lurker but first time poster. I have collected stamps since the age of 11, about 55 years ago. My interests include US, Canada, Space Covers and pre-modern era beautifully engraved WW. I have little interest in modern PSA stamps. Recently started back collecting in earnest since I retired.
I have a number of samps that are postally unused but have no gum. The gum was soaked off. These stamps are before the PSA era. When cataloging these stamps they are not MNH and they are not used. How are my fellow collectors cataloging these these and how are they valuing them?
For example, I have a Canadian Bluenose that is unused and beautifully centered but has no gum. A beautiful stamp in every respect.
I am using a spreadsheet to inventaory my collection and I am considering purchasing a software program to catalog my stamps but I don't think software programs can handle stamps such as these. I also don't know how to properly value them.
How to value is going to be more of an art than a science. Classic US are valued without gum through Scott 245. Unitrade values Canadian stamps up through Unitrade 30 in no gum condition. Outside of these, unless you are talking about a genuine rarity the catalog value is the value for used.
