I assume this is a cinderella. I found it in an unsorted collection of foreign stamps:

Inspection Stamp for the Japan Union Export Hosiery Manufacturers Association ... "Made in Japan":

Is anyone familar with it? Can you date it's use?

Don't know why, but this brings to mind the old David Letterman joke, "Hi, I'm number 56, and I'm here to finish inspecting your pants."

Nice.

Thanks for all the comments ... Sometimes these Cinderellas are more interesting to uncover than some of the real stamps!

I believe this cinderella was used for export of toys.

I don't know if that's yours, Ciletaliph, but if it is, I would say that may well be quite valuable, showing the actual usage of the inspection stamp.

I'm drawing a blank on the term at the moment (and, sadly, that's happening more and more as time goes by), but there's a term in philately and exhibiting about material like this.

If a genuine usage, I could see that going into an auction in Japan or Hong Kong.

Hi Philatarium, no it's not mine, but I found several toys on ebay with the stamp.

Hi

Just F.Y.I., there is a catalog available that lists at least some of these "passed" stamps. See below.

Wow, wow, wow.
It's hard to believe, after years of collecting, I still get surprised at new
things emerging, almost daily.

Thanks Jim.
