Any value to this cover letter? Is it a first day. I've seen another on the form that is dated 2-21-28 from Springfield, Il I believe. Thanks, Larry

Yes there is value to your cover. I've been looking for a cheap one to purchase from Springfield IL, my hometown. Heck, I'd like any from St Louis or Chicago as well. Who am I kidding? LOL! |

Welcome to the forum Larry While it is not a rare cover, it is still a desirable one to say the least. This cover is a specialty all on its own and popular too. Nice cover Chimo Bujutsu |

Covers with the horseshoe cancel are American Air Mail Catalog #36 to #42 in the Lindberghiana section in Volume III. This one is #41, tied for the most common. The AAMC states "...Lindbergh returned to carrying the mail at his old assignment on (CAM) Route 2 for two days, February 20 and 21, 1928. The volume of mail provided by collectors and his admirers generally was so great that several planes were necessary to handle the load. However, Col. Lindbergh personally flew each plane at least a portion of the trip..." |

Excellent bit of information regarding these covers. Thanks Doug. I'll include it on my page for my recent horseshoe acquisition (shown previously on that other Lindbergh thread). |

I seem to have the only 'return trip' cancel (Feb 21) of all these horseshoe covers I've seen on this and the other Lindbergh thread. And I wonder why the sender of my cover felt the need to put 20c postage on it? |

"Lindy the Lone Eagle" eh? That's really a neat document revenuecollector! I sold the one I had in a cover lot over the summer. |
