Italy postal cover with 2 stamps.On the left 5 lire Expresso red stamp issued 1945.On the right 25 cents green stamp issued in 1944 with o/p 2 lire and poste italiane.Have not been able to trace the o/p stamp in the net.Need to know why the need to over print Poste Italiane on an Italian stamp?.All details and opinions appreciated.Thanks.

The stamp is Scott #462. "Poste Italiane" was added because the original stamp was issued by the Italian Socialist Republic, a different postal administration altogether. The issue date was May 2, 1945, just before VE Day, May 7-8; the post office probably wanted some new stamps on hand instead of using stamps from the old fallen regime.
