an hour to SF's north, Santa Rosa was devastated. I've seen pics, does anyone have any PCs of Santa Rosa's damage from the quake? I lived there from 1988-98.

I finally had time to scan the rest of my 1906 earthquake postcards. The devastation is humbling. And the odds are high that some time in the next 20 years another major West Coast city will look like this.

Another iconic structure to survive relatively intact was the Ferry Building. It's still a welcome sight on the Embarcadero. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_F...rry_Building

These are incredible. I have walked all those streets recently many times and can only imagine the shock and disorientation that people of the time experienced. It's also remarkable that new buildings were built behind several of the facades, and those still exist. An example is the Phelan Building, which is currently occupied by high-tech startups (I was just in there about 2 weeks ago).

The 110th anniversary observation was held 1 month ago and for the first time no survivors were available.

Wow! Fantastic cards yall !! I've learned so much from collecting postcards. Way more than I ever did from my high school history teacher. And my college professors too for that matter.

Here is one of Fourth and Mendocino streets, Santa Rosa, currently on eBay.

The earthquake did damage all long the coast. 100 miles north, Point Arena was devastated.

Looking north pre quake;

Looking south after;

Fantastic cards I am seeing here. What I am wondering now is, how does every one in here plan to mount their cards in albums? What I mean is, with a description on each card on each page, or just in the sleeves??

I collect postcards mostly for the postmarks as part of my Redwood Empire postal history collection (Humboldt & Mendocino counties, California) and any related subject matter they may show on the picture side. When I have a card that has a photo I want to display, I print the photo on the back of the proceeding page and mount the postmarked card on the right had display page Then I slide the finished page into top loading clear page protectors. When I open the Humboldt county binder to Bulwinkle page one, I see this, but full sized of course.

These are some of the most heartrending picture postcards I have ever scene. They remind me of photos of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Mid -grade school students really should see documentary pictures like these cards to bring history to life.

Today being the 111th anniversary of the Great San Francisco Earthquake (April 18, 1906), I found one more card to post. This one is from across the bay at Stanford University.
