I'm just curious if anybody has had any luck getting through to the ARA lately. I joined last week, sent $$ via Paypal, and directed my application to the secretary. I haven't heard back at all, not even an email.

I sent a check about two weeks ago for my initial membership. I figure it will take a while so wouldn't be too nervous about not hearing anything for a week. |

If the ARA is like most societies, you won't hear back for a few weeks/months. These are mostly volunteer groups. Have you sent a follow-up email to the correct person? The officers all have their emails listed on the ARA homepage. http://www.revenuer.org/officers.html |

I think Glenn Estus is mostly correct regarding the delay. I also understand that right now, in addition to slow communication, there is a lag between the ARA receiving a payment from Paypal and the secretary finding out about it. Bob Hohertz, the ARA president, is a aware of the issues and working to resolve them -- again, within the restraints of being a volunteer organization with limited resources and officers who often have day jobs (or take vacations, as iKey said). |

I understand, especially in the case of vacations, although in this day and age, I would think there would at very least be some type of even automated email responder thanking you for your application, it should be approved within x number of days, weeks, etc. I don't want this to seem like sour grapes, because it really isn't, just my observation that if philately is looking to attract younger collectors, organizations should strive to do better. This is not rocket science.
I'm going on vacation through Sunday. This reminds me I'll need to set my responder. |

Don't get to upset about the delay, as I sent my dues in about two months ago and my check has yet to be cashed. Also if I remember the by-laws, new must be listed/proposed in the magazine TAR - before acceptance. So with a quartly publication schedule this could be awhile. Hang in there its worth it.
