A Cover From 1940.

Below is a GB cover from the year 1940.
I am not going to tell you anything about it

Why not, you may ask ?

Because this is up to you Sherlock Holmes' out there who just love to investigate.

I will be giving away a nice gift from the London 2010 Festival of Stamps. A cover with a new issue Miniature Sheet or Booklet Pane cancelled at the International Exhibition or at the KGV Exhibition in the Guildhall. You can choose which sheet or pane you want any time up to May 2nd. You can see the sheets/panes here and more may be added during the coming weeks. So what do you have to do??
Look at the cover below and tell me as much about it as you can.
Tell me how it came about and any theories you may have about it
I am looking for one or two specifics but will except a 'nearly' !
Tell me as much as you can, it's as simple as that.
The last competition was very nice with some great answers.

Rule Britannia is the theme of the drawing where the sun never sets..
Robson Lowe Ltd. is a stamp dealer/auctioneer.
The stamp & the cancel marks the 100 anniversary of the 1st adhesive postage stamp, which of course is from the UK.
The Bournemouth Adhesive Stamp Centennial Exposition.

Well, the theme does certainly appear to be "Rule Britannia" and the design is taken from a "Mulready" envelope from 1840. The re-creation, if I am not mistaken, is a special card prepared for the 1940 Philatelic Exhibition held in London of that year, since it was 100 years commemorating the world's first stamp. The stamp used in the scan is also one from a set that was also issued to commemorate 100 years of the first stamp issue.

Re-make of the Mulready envelope, issued the same day as the Penny Black, 1 May 1840, franked with the 1d stamp honouring the 100th Anniversary of the Penny Black, and postmarked at the "Bournemouth Adhesive Stamp Exhibition", honourinig the 100th Anniversary of the world's first postage stamp, the Penny Black.

You will notice within the postmark is a replica of the Maltese Cross Cancellation used to cancel the Penny Blacks.

The cover is addressed to Robson Lowe, on of THE British Commonwealth Stamp Dealer-Experts of their day.

I came up with the same as David. However, I missed the Maltese Cross in the cancellation.

But what about the story behind the cover....delve deeper !
Well, I guess it's not so easy, but I was looking for more info on the story surrounding the cover, before during and after !!

I seek a story behind the cover. Just a bit of fun for all those who like to dig a little.

I think we have quite a few 'diggers here' !

But as I said, only a bit of fun.

On another group I belonged to a few years back, we took it in turns to post a philatelic problem. It was great fun, no prizes just lots of banter,clues and interesting facts.

tomorrow I'll write my story behind this cover and you'll see what I mean.

I had a story on the original Mulreadys (Including the original woodblock)
but the Robson Lowe I know nothing about.
