Now that's a nice, big, clear day and month! Evidently from Deogan in the far east of the old Hyderabad State, now in Orissa State. I haven't been able to find Deogan in my references on Hyderabad, so it was probably a fairly small and out-of-the-way place sort of place, in those days at least.
The squared circle should get that young rascal Rod222 all hot and bothered. He has a bit of a thing for squared circles. |

That's OK I am in the ice bath. I've pinched the image. I am having Rogan Josh tonight for dinner, and will take your cover and see if my resident chef can read Hindi / Urdu. I'll miss him when I move, the Curry palace is just 300 metres away! He cooked me Goat last week. |

Rodney, you're perfectly right As usual, I've been trying to over-complicate things. Instead of picking up the obvious, I stretched out for the obscure. 'Deccan' is the name given to a broad area of central-southern India, home to that geological phenomenon, the Deccan Traps. Hyderabad State was the largest political entity in the Deccan. The 'Deccan' was needed in order to distinguish that Hyderabad from the other (large) Hyderabad in Sind, north of Karachi. (I don't think I've seen a Hyderabad (Sind) cancellation of that era. Don't know whether it was inscribed Hyderabad Sind, or just Hyderabad. Could be the latter, as it was in British Indian territory.) |

Spock, it would be very unmanly to tangle with an elderly gentleman who wears glasses. |

No Luck Tony, the script is Urdu, and my very friendly Chef only reads Hindi.
(PS The Rogan Josh was to die for :)

There was some Hindi on that cover, but possibly not relevant.
(And I had an excellent bowl of pho. If you ever decide to come across and visit a grown-up city, Rodney, let me know. I'll see if I can't convert you to pho bo.) |

You guys are driving me crazy. First goat, then pho! Thankfully I can get both here.
Turns out goat is made of proteins that more easily digested than any other by the human digestive system. |

That's weird Tony..I had the cover inkjet printed on an A4, and even before I finished asking him, he said "I don't read Urdu", he had seen the script through the back of the A4 and recognised it.
I now realise other "mere males" don't look at things as closely as stamp collectors. :(
I am moving to the country, so I'll have to pass on the pho, and begin learning to eat the coat of arms (Kangaroo and Emu)
