Salubrious BeeSee,
the first digit is very confusing,
the part scroll does not fit with any numeral I know :)

I would have said "79" but the little scroll does
not fit with a seven
So I guess one has to flip it and suggest it is 6? (62?)

You are getting a very nice collection of Oz, well done.

Thanks Rod! It is a Scott #11 (SG?). I don't mind the little slice at the top left, since I paid only $7.

I never thought about the cancel. My first though is 79, but could be 62. When I get it I will do a proper scan.

How many sesqinsquillions of possible answers do you want?
this stamp comes in many disguises
As always based on the cheapest possible type
SG25 imperf deep red-brown GBP21
or SG27 imperf brick red GBP15

Need watermark.. double line numeral 1,2 or 4.?

Unless someone else has a better idea.

Assuming it's watermarked double-line '1', Gibbons offers a selection of shades. For my money, it looks like the dull vermilion, SG 28 (£27 used this year). There is a watermark error on the carmine shade '2' instead of '1', unpriced in Gibbons. Worth a good, close look when you have it in your tweezers!

I have one of those too. Are they always quite blurry? Is it to do with the paper or printing method?

The one I found is an absolute howler. I don't know why I kept it.
That isn't a bad scan BTW It really is that bad.
Your example is much better BeeCee.

Anthony: Maybe it is a worn plate or something. Nice pen cancel date April 30, 1866. If you don't want it, I would take it

Ok she has arrived, and asides from the slight margin cut, condition is great - no thins or globs of hinges. [y]

Appears to me to be Scott 11b, brown red. Watermark is numeral 1.

She proudly sits here:

Looks great, BeeSee.

I'm curious about the "matte" behind the stamp....

Is it just a square of grayish paper?

Is the stamp hinged to the matte and the matte hinged to the page?

Either way, beautiful presentation.
Kirk

Thanks Kirk.

It is gray cardstock, the stamps are hinged to it with Dennison hinges. Then the gray stock is hinged with cheapo hinges to the page. This way if I want to redesign the pages or move the stamps around, I do not have to worry about un-hinging the stamps, I just remove the gray "assembly".
