Here are a couple of example from the 2 cent showing inking and cleaning anomalies

Ink void above left 2 caused from improper inking of plate

Ink voids to the middle left and lower right of left 2 caused from improper inking of plate

Over inking of "P" in "POSTAGE" caused by improper wiping of the plate after inking.

These three scans are from different stamps. I only have about 10 of the 6 cent so I used the 2 cent to get a bigger population to shw some of these inking issues. These stamps were pulled from 15 I looked at. The types of anomalies are really common in flat plate printing.

Hi,

Maybe someone know why there are two dots on this stamp. One on top and another one on the bottom (centered).

Thank you!

cdnum,
I will put together some info on the flat plate printing process in the next few days. I think this will help you to understand these type on anomalies.
