Found this one going through a box of old family letters which produced 30 - 40 Stampless letters from the 1840's and 1850's. This is a Souvenir Postcard from the World Columbian Exposition of 1893 with a great Postmark from the World's Fair station. Of course this is also the same exposition that produced the Columbian Stamp issue.

Great looking card! Most will probably have interest in it as a World's Fair item, which makes it even more collectable.

Very nice card. The Columbian expo grounds were exceptionally beautiful. Unfortunately, a fire distroyed many of the buildings. Today only 2 remain. But thanks to UCLA, everyone can still visit it.

Lovely. Any one else agree that we've gotten very dull these last many years? If you go back to the industrial age we had beautiful post cards, RPPCs (real photo post cards) and truly remarkable engraved business envelopes. Yeah, the smoke stacks are today a little off-putting but they made for pretty cards and covers.

Whats also very interesting is the handwriting. If you look close the writer used r's instead of e's. Look at the words State, where, meet, and arrange. And even with the word arrange the r's are not correct but the e is the proper way to write the r. I always try to read what the person wrote on cards like these.

I like the detail in the whole card, the statues on the buildings, the little boat under the bridge, Monet painting on the riverbank, well I can imagine can't I?

Some things now are with less detail but that could be a matter of cost, as to hirer an artist would be more expensive than snapping a picture perhaps.

I have a mint copy of that card. It was one of the first cards I bought when I started collecting. I still have the price tag that says $15!
