Hey Folks,
I thought I would share some images of an item I found out in Mt. Morris, NY at an antique store back in June. It's an awkward item to scan as it's like a book so I did the shots with my wife's camera on a tripod with macro settings. These are quick shots so I probably can do better with some more time and better lighting, etc.

This is just a sample from one of two books of stock certificates from the Buffalo Forge Company. The stocks and stamps date to the late 1920's and 1930's. Aside from forges the company made all sorts of machine tools - drills, pumps, etc., but were also pioneers in early air conditioning. Some of the company's history is found in this link: http://www.buffaloah.com/h/bfloforge/index.html

The stamps are mostly stock transfer stamps, both federal and those of New York. There's just a small sample in the pictures, but many of the stocks have the stamps on the front, the back, in blocks, on the tabs in cases where the certificate was removed and other attached legal/financial documents. There's a couple of hundred stamps amongst all the certifcates. It's like an album in of itself which is neat.
Enjoy, Will (img heavy)

Very nice material, especially the stamps. What amazes me is that some of these stocks were dated just prior to the Stock Market Crash of 1929. The company apparently survived it all and still remains in business today.

Great find especially at an antique store. Quite a large amount/ values of the transfer stamps . Did they have to affix so much per stock trade or based on value of the trade. Imagine your life savings tied into that pc of paper and the margin it came from. No E trade no computers just solid paper work. Can I/ we ask what you paid for the lot?

This is one of two books of stock certificates I was able to purchase. They are like ledgers. There are even more stamps on other pages in the books than this. I presume the tax was a certain percentage of the trade, but I don't know the rates. I didn't take any pictures for all the legal forms that are also attached to some of the transfers. It was a lucky find at $20 for both books.

Holy snappers! Like the man said, "Pretty very out far!"
Also nice to see the beauty of the engraving on the stocks themselves.
