Just came across this while I was web surfing. As I am not from the UK, would someone care to explain how this program works and/or if there are examples of the stamps used in this venture?

http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/ne...r_Christmas/

It seems to me it is a rather novel fund raising approach.

During them month of December going into the Christmas season, the Scouts are allowed by the British post office to operate as a postal service as a fund raiser. This is done all over the UK. Many issue their on stamps for the service since early 1990's.

Interesting info. I've never heard it mentioned before, so this is a new one on me. I wonder if anyone on SCF has any stamps from the venture that they can post? (According to the article, it suggests that the endeavor is sparking some interest with stamp collectors.)

That is great! A scouting Local Post. I would love to get a cover for each of my 4 scouts as a reward to completing their Stamp Collecting Merit Badges.

There is a Welsh one in there but not Newport.

I have a couple of covers somewhere. Will hunt them down.
I must 'Be Prepared' for this kind of thread.

Thanks for all the info. It's an interesting topic to be sure. As I mentioned earler, I had never heard of it before. The pdf file in the link from Londonbus1 really explains the program in detail. I was especially interested in point 6.5 about first day cancels and covers that could be sold to collectors. Is this common or a relative rarity?

Either way, the stamps are great. Yet another collecting topic to consider.

Londonbus has one of everything

Which reminds me of an old joke --
Q: What do you get for the man who has everything?
A: A box to put it in.

Kirk,
I have those...sorry !
I also collect little boxes to put my stamps in. They look quite attractive dotted around the desk.

The middle one opened has the latest batch of Scout Stamps, as yet unsorted !

The Little Flower tokens are a good subject....you can see they want to get onto the forum !

Reminds me of a song I used to like when I was a kid.....[re-worded]

"Little boxes, Little Boxes, little boxes made for philatelists,
Little boxes, little boxes, little boxes for my stamps...."

There are more, but those without stamps have been stored away ready for the big refurbishment next week.

LondonBePrepared1,
As always you come thru with images of great LP's and Cindy's. I was just given a box of philatelic items and some of the stamps were sorted into cardboard prescription boxes from at least 40 years ago from a local pharmacy.

Hang on to them Stamperdude ! Can you take a pic and show us ?
I have a real soft spot for little boxes, free or otherwise.
Am always looking at Flea markets. Musical ones too.
Make great looking stamp storage items !

Not many Scout posts around, often quite expensive. But can find them here and there. Those in the box above [scanned above too] are from a postal auction of my London Philatelic Society [The National].
If you want some for your 4 Scouts, just holler, there are some dupes I can make up into small packets...just as an unusual gift !
[Probably only a few stamps in each packet but better than nowt]
