I ran into this post on a Route 66 group I am on, but thought that this is the perfect place to expand a stamp related project.
I will be sending a postcard or 2 and even have a gingerbread man stamp to use for postage!

Here is the idea:
The kids made a gingerbread man, and the teacher told them that he "ran away" from the classroom. The teacher needs people who live outside of Southern Illinois to send the class a postcard or letter, pretending to be the gingerbread man.

In the letter or postcard, the gingerbread man needs to tell the kids that he is visiting the town listed on the postmark, and it would be good if he could talk about something unique to the area, such as a prominent monument, sports stadium, state park, or other significant landmark. As a teacher, I would add that the gingerbread man probably needs to keep his language very clear and simple, as he is writing to young children whose vocabularies are still fairly limited.

The address is:

Mrs. Webb's Kindergarten Class
1405 West Grand St.
Carterville, IL 62918

Wow!

What a clever and fun thing to do for those kids. I bet they will remember it for the rest of their lives.

stampgal,
That would be awesome for Gingy to travel to Scotland. He could start racking up some frequent flyer miles for a world wide tour.

KirkS,
I agree that it is a fun thing to do. I've done this before with a class whom were needing postcards from places along Route 66. At the time there were a few pictorial postmarks available for my town and I sent a different postcard for each student.

I suggested a postal topic to my daughter's nursery teacher - I'll mention this idea to her, too. Its a good one.
I look forward to welcoming Gingy to Scotland and helping him write a card....

Yeah, I read that and thought, "Surely St. Paul, MN is the Great White North." Wrong again (even if we did get 22 inches of snow this past weekend).

You guys n gals are great! I knew this idea would go over well. It would be cool if they got cards from all the continents represented on SCF;we really need to find a member from Antartica.

I should have asked him his name before I bit his head off. (Hey, its lunchtime...I was hungry.)

Does he have a name, as far as you know? (As in, a name to sign to the card?)

As far as I know his name is just Gingerbread Man. I threw in "Gingy" because of the Shrek movies, "Not the gum drop buttons."

I would probably have signed, "Your friend, the Gingerbread Man." If said man had a name I will sign it accordingly.

"Gingy" sounds like the animated villain from a mouthwash commercial...guess I'll go with The Gingerbread Man.
