Just one more item I didn't know existed. Is this one of the most valuable stamps(?) in the world? Read about it here: http://www.worldstampnews.com/2010/...p/#more-2750

Well, I followed the link...I read the story. Now I feel like I need to update my virus-protection software, and quick.

Is it April 1st somewhere in the world?

I've run into that site more than few times, and it contains more than a few questionable articles. On the questionable articles, their references are often news releases or articles from other obscure sites/sources.

That is not to say there is no useful information on the site. They do have some occasionally interesting coverage of new issues.

Most interesting and far-sighted. Here were Japanese traders, using stamps inscribed in English, a full seven years before Commodore Perry sailed into Tokyo Bay and opened the country to the outside world again. Clearly my old Japanese history textbooks are in serious need of updating.

Another interesting aspect: if these stamps date from 1847, this must be the first recorded use of perforations around stamps, too.

Altogether, a pretty feeble leg-pull.

I was doing some reading on the 1856 emergency issue Brittish Guiana 1 cent Magenta stamp. This stamp was purchased for $935,000 in 1980 by John E. DuPont. But the stamp is in a safe deposit box the article said because DuPont is in jail. He murdered a wrestler at his mansion.
Well I looked on Google and what do you know? DuPont died in prision yesterday Dec. 9, 2010 at the age of 72.

I agree laswabbie.

I can tell you definitively there are 5 Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Wikipedia

That "stamp" does not even LOOK old. The font certainly was not used then, let alone the perforations. This appears to be entirely bogus.
