I agree with Rod - which is why I use Vario stock leaves (plus I hate hinges!) |

I agree with you there alright. We always have had dogs throughout all of our lives and most likely will continiue to do so. Sad to say though, we lost one of our babies just this last Tuesday and he will be sadly missed. We also love our cats too and all of them are rescues due to some lousy cruds dropping them off on the road because summer is over and leaving them to fend for themselves.
Dogs and cats are like kids to us and we hate to lose them because it is like losing a member of the family.
You might say that my wife collects dogs on stamps to give them a home, just like the real thing <G>

Topicals are what are close to the heart. But the nice thing is that the collection can expand into different areas and avenues.
The stamps could be all about cats but could then expand into cancels of cats, covers with cat cachets, etc.
Souvenir (miniature) sheets are a modern attempt to capitalize on this theme of topical collecting. If the stamp itself can't have a cat on it then the rest of the little sheet can.
people can buy and sell a topical stamp(s) for a good price sometimes as the collector is concerned more about his/her topic and how this item would add to it rather than the catalog numbers or year or price even sometimes. It is the topic.
And, as David King says so well, the idea of just collecting what appeals to a person makes for a better collection, perhaps better cared for and better loved. Much less stress, except when that auction is ending and you so want that set of cat stamps you have been searching for for years. But it's all fun. |

Sorry I have not been around. We got smashed by a big nasty storm. Over 80,000 lightning strikes. Have had no power for 2 days. The humidity is dripping off us. Another big storm due again soon. There are others here that need the computer more than me. Nice to see you Puzzler. If you do not hear from me you know why! John. Love those open fire cup of coffee! |

After reading the comments a few thing have stood out. Topicals are more relaxing than other form of stamp collecting. A chance to be creative outside of the square. Unusual topicals and more common topicals seem to be equally collected. My Aust KGVs are my meat and topicals are the vegies. Looking for that balance, for a healthier stamp collecting attitude.
So far 3 topicals have me thinking. Oil rigs, deserts and picture type scenic stamps. Still trying to figure out what to collect. Thanks KGV! Not bad for someone that would only collect KGVs.

Hello OK, OK I understand the now, topical is not the same than thematic So, I donīt like the topical because donīt like the Cinderellas, but Iīm very tempting to a thematic collection, after saw the Daniel Olsenīs "beetle" exposition. Then, a question for you The Daniel Olsen is a topical or thematic collection? Fernando Moscoso Ecuador |

Novato A topical is a theme, therefore it is Thematic. They are one and the same, depending on which part of the globe you reside. Londonbus1....Totally topical Thematic Flag collector ! |

These 2 stamps look like they are not stamps on stamps. But what theme would you put them in? KGV |

They are not stamps on stamps, but to celebrate the Bern UPU building, they have used the central designs of various Europa issues. Rather neat but not strictly 'stamps on stamps'.

John, I would classify those as "Appendix" stamps.
Listed in SG simplified as stamps issued in excess of postal use (basically cinderellas)
In Stanley Gibbons they are B.o.b (back of book)
