I have not been active on the forum because of health problems. I am, however on the mend, and want to be more active. If anyone remembers I was interested in KGV Collector's KGV collection and all the wonderful information he dispensed. I have a question for KGV Collector. I have a pile of KGV stamps. With all the variations what is the best way and order to sort the stamps?
King - I probably got here after your health problems but glad you are on the mend. I have KGV stamps coming out my ears so am also interested in the response.
HELLO! King Conn! Good to see you! It is so nice to hear from you again. I was starting to get a bit worried. Great to hear that you are on the mend. You are such an active person I hope this has not changed but as you are asking about stamps you must be OK.
Firstly I would sort everything into denominations and standard colour issues. Close some DL envelope and cut them in half the shortest way. This is a good way to store your stamps as they are being sorted. Perforations next. The easiest way is to use a perf 14 KGV as a measuring tool. A perf 14 counts 17 perf teeth across the top of the stamp. Perf 13.5 counts 16 perf teeth across the top of the stamp. The measuring tool is better being a different colour than the stamps you are checking. Watermarks is next and I would refer this subject back to the thread called Australian KGV Stamps explained as it has pictures with a good explanation there. Next is time to put the sorted stamps into a stockbook so you can look for printing flaws. Having some fun arranging the stamps on the page into there different shades. Try not to be to over the top on shade perfection. I stress the word fun! And when you have done this, start again with a fresh lot of KGVs. Hope this has been helpful. John
To; kGV Collector, John; I've been away for Christmas and just got home. I really appreciation all the help you have been already. I have copied most of this string and arranged it in some kind of order.I still have some problems and questions that I will be asking help for. anyway this is a fun project and I thank you for getting me interested in Australian KGV stamps. Conn I figure if I have this in two strings you can't miss it..
