I see that they are going to issue a stamp for Owney. There is a great story behind this dog.

What a touching story about Owney. He lived quite a life for a dog. A human, too would have had fun.

I was able to see the Owney exhibit at the International Philatelic Exposition Washington 2006. I was a bit surprised to see the stuffed dog. I am looking forward to this stamp, I am sure there will be quite a few interested covers designed.

I find it odd that the 2011 USPS Stamp Program doesn't list the post office where the first day of issue will be held. In the case of Owney, I would think it would be Albany, NY. Does anyone know for sure?

wt1,
It could still be undecided on the official FDOI city. It very well could be the National Postal Museum in Washington DC. Plus in the postal bulletin #22301 page 50 it says the FD city is Washington DC.

That was very interesting to hear that a stamp to commemorate Owney will be issued. I mentioned this to my wife, who collects dogs and sealife on stamps and she has expressed interest in getting this stamp. I know a friend of mine who lives in Silcon Valley, Ca who I can depend on to get me one.

Being an animal lover in general, I am glad to see that the US will be issuing this stamp.

I can not wait to get the Pixar stamps! I think Lightning Mcqueen and Mater will be my new avatar. Those are going to look awesome with cachets of my kids on covers!

I think that I will also be taking a road trip to Hannibal MO in June to attend the MARK TWAIN FD ceremony. That will give me an excuse to cruise part of the GREAT RIVER ROAD scenic byway. Plus it is a great, quaint, riverside town.
