Hi to all
As I go through the accumulation funny stamps keep turning up.
This shows two copies of the Christmas 1962 Stamp, but one has strange colouring. No it is not the postmark. It is actually ink on the veil, and the background colour is odd also.Even the hands of the Virgin Mary are miscoloured, UV shows no signs of chemical alteration either.
Any ideas
Regards
Horamakhet

Assuming it's not a forgery, some stamps don't soak well. Could it be that simple?

Maybe back in 1962 the printer started the Christmas celebration a bit too early with a huge bottle of Whiskey? It seems the actual printing started off after the third glass.....

The used stamp "looks" like it may be scuffed. Try running your finger across the face of the stamp or look at it under magnification.

There is also the possibility that this stamp could have been exposed to too much sunshine and it was 'bleached' as a result?? Some stamps are affected that way.

Failing that, if the colour is slightly off, then it is just a minor changeling and might be put in the EFO (Error Freaks Oddities) category.

Just a theory

Hi to all

It is not scuffed. I have examined it under a gemmological microscope 10x X 4. There is actually the brown colouring of the background on the veil, and also the hands are coloured in the same brown ink that is on the background. Probably a freak

The whole stamp does look a bit scuffed - look at the writing below the picture. I suspect it was soaked rather aggressively.
