Hello All,
I have a question about these kinds of German postmarks. Is there any specific term for this type? It's almost like a bridge postmark with an outer ring. Thanks! Will

I believe the second postcard was posted in ye olde mine.

Hi Battlestamps

I have heard of the term "Orb" used for large circular cancellations but not sure if that is the correct term or not.

There were some dounble and triple-ring orb cancellations produced by the Canadian post office around 1900 - 1910 approximately.

Yours could also be called a 'barred circle' of sorts, but again, I cannot confirm this.

I made an enquiry 8 years ago battlestamps
on a similar double ring from SAAR.

It probably has no bearing on yours,
but I'll post the answers for your interest.

Thanks for the help! It makes sense a bit more now. It's a form of slogan cancel, but wrapped around the CDS as opposed to printed to the left of the CDS like other German postmarks of the day.

I have another odd one:

Can anyone make out the violet handstamp? It's military and from WWI era, but not sure it's purpose.
thanks, Will
