Intially presumed to be a doodle, but it seems to appear often, or it may be my imagination. Could be related to a particular sender, or it may have a philatelic significance. ? The 4 letters left and above the CDS. Anyone?

Are they the same symbols on every cover? It looks like the Gujarti script has loops and curving descenders: http://j.mp/eGljVp Just an idea, of course. |

Quote: Only a few covers Joshua Right. I mean, of all the exemplars you have, do they all have the same letters (if that is what they are)? |

Indeed, but both are to a hide manufacturer, so could be from a similar scribe. My other covers are packed away right now so I cannot confirm the similarities.

Quote: but both are to a hide manufacturer Wow. I knew some Indians revered cows, but sending them letters is surprising commitment. ;-) |

Rod, it's Urdu/Persian, but I wouldn't begin to hazard a guess at reading it. Perhaps a sender's name. |

OK Thanks guys, as usual, put it in the "keep an eye on" slot, I'll scan them as I come across them and see if they are as common as I think they are.

mcgeesorg, I don't think this is the 74½ curse. That is only written in Nagari, and I'll wager the inscription Rod is asking about is Persian. |

All this intelligent talk.. it's over my head.
If you can't read Nagari, and someone sends you the 74.5 curse, does it lose its power?

Rodney, I believe you just warded off Internet worms and viruses for a week by typing that question. :-) |

I wouldn't take the risk, Rodney, really I wouldn't. You never do know. |

Scardy Kats. It's interesting though, and explains "attachment" to things. If someone abuses you in a foreign language, one just meanders on, blissfully unaware.
