While thumbing through a box of postcards at the White Plains show today I found some Italian World War 1 postcards..My Grandfather was from Trento but it then belonged to Austria so even though he was ethnic Italian he was a citizen of Austria and had to fight for her for four years..Italy regained the North but suffered horrific casualties in porportion to its population !

Here is one from a time when Merano was still called Meran.
At least by the German speakers.

Thanks Litho,i finally got to visit relatives there in 2001..the dolomites are a beautiful area..its amazing around Lake Garda to see tropical species like lemon trees and palms that far north !

That's why the Austrians wanted to keep it, for the lemon trees and palms.

Litho, the Austrians wanted it..but it would be like us taking Texas,New Mexico Arizona and California away from Mexico...
