I can see the two fans of the cork obliterator (that kind of look like a flying duck) but underneath, am I really seeing a Pennsylvania Dutch boy. Does anyone have any ideas or information about this?

I'm no expert, but I don't see it?

Maybe if we found an image of the cancel that's NOT on a stamp.

i have made another scan, I use adobe but dont know how to make arrow, but I have tried to place some labels to the right of where my imagination is seeing theses things. The boy is only from the waist up wearing a hat and facing right giving us a side profile. I see (oh boy, the looney bin) him wearing a hat, his face and his right arm crooked as though he were holding in across his torso. Does anyone else see it or should I lock myself up??

Well I see the hat for sure, but I don't know what a Pennsylvania Dutch Boy is. Looks more like a man in black from Area 51.

I tried googling some Johnny Appleseed pictures and got some similarities but I keep looking for why his arm is crooked - maybe holding a hobo pole with a sack (which I don't see but could imagine). Maybe its just a lot of wishful thinking, but it certainly doesn't appear to go with the cork cancel above it. OK enough said I will be locking myself up now!

I'm with you JH -- can't understand why the others can't see him -- it's as plain as the nose on his face!!

Welcome to SCF.

OK making one last scan and attempt (and I will go to bed so everyone can laugh at me uninterrupted). I took the first scan and tried to white pencil around the approximate areas that I see (who was that snickering). They should be marked "hat" "face" "shoulder to elbow" and "arm across torso". I know the type got a little small I was trying to make it fit. If people don't see this, I will stop pestering. I found that it helped to go from the last to first scan and look, but then it's in my mind so I don't have any trouble seeing it. Thanks for your patience everyone.

thanks for the welcome steve, it is fun having other people to talk to that understand my passion for little pieces of paper with glue on them. - Jeff (and that's a pretty dam good likeness of what I am looking at)

OK, I see what you see.

Let's approach from a different angle -- is there such thing as a Pennsylvania Dutch Boy cancel? Does anyone have another example? etc..

I have no idea about a Dutch boy cancel or Johnny Appleseed. I sure would like to see the rest of the cancel. What I would give to have the whole thing on cover. But thanks for letting me out of the looney bin Kirk, I feel much better (even if no other example exists)

....have you considered that Kirk was letting himself In to the loony bin?!....

Only kidding.

I saw it too. Hoping someone comes up with a fuller example. It might just be a coincidentally shaped smudge. I like the Johnny Appleseed idea.

If I am letting you two in, it's gonna get crowded, it only a 10x10 but at least it's well padded all through.

I wonder why the cancel runs right along the left edge of the design, largely missing the left margin and perfs? Odd happenstance?

And yes, I see the hat (and the flying duck)...not sure about the rest.
