That's horrible. They better not try to close the post office near my house. One of the reasons why I live where I do is because I can walk to it. I'll have to ramp up the mailings and help keep them profitable.
For the life of me - I can't understand why the US Government does not allow the USPS to operate along the Canadian model which is profitable. Also - maintaining Saturday delivery has always seemed to me to be excessive and bizarre.
There goes the unemployment rate again. Being in Canada I'm not sure but do you guys have a bunch of smaller postal outlets located in franchises or are all of these full fledged usps post offices. Might have to make friends with the local 7-11 owner as thats what they may do to offset labour cost. Some up here are quite knowledgeable and will custom order things for you but others look at you with a blank stare if its anything more than sending a letter. Bad news no matter how you look at it.
I live in a big city, so I am not worried about cuts of service to myself.
The USPS should not be run strictly as a business. It is a service provided in this country for the benefit of the common good. They should be able to increase revenue to ensure continued service to outlying communities.
