View Only Messages I Haven't Read

As a new user at SCF, I'm still getting used to the way it works. I've found that each time I visit, I can click "Active" to see only the topics that have been active since my last visit. Then once I've browsed the new messages, I click "AR" to mark all the topics as read. That works great.

Here's the rub ... When I click on a topic, I have to filter through all the messages to find the spot where messages begin that I haven't yet read. This is pretty annoying when there are a lot of replies. Is there any way so that when you click on a topic it takes you to the first message within that topic you haven't yet read?

You could use the Topic Subscription option for those topics you are interested in following. It will cause you to be emailed a link to the latest post in that topic every time someone replies to it.

That page will show you updated topics since your last visit. I start on that page, run down the list and click on all the topics I want to look at while holding down the control key. That opens them all in new tabs/windows depending on you browser settings. Then I look at them one at a time, closing the tab/window as I go. When I'm done I click on the button which resets them.

I see everyone has their own workaround to the problem. The issue I'm trying to resolve is this...

Suppose there is a long-standing topic that has hundreds of replies and multiple pages. You've already read most of the messages in the topic, but it has been a couple of hours since you last looked. And many people have replied in that time. How do you know where you left off reading without simply looking at all the messages in the topic to see if you've already read them?

It would be nice to have a feature similar to the "Active" feature for topics. For example a button you could click on each topic that takes you to the first message you have not yet read. Or maybe there is already such a feature, and I'm missing it. That's my question.

They rest to blue when the Active topics page is reset.

Also, when you're in Active View, the "LAST POST" column shows the name of the most recent poster and an arrow -->

I usually click the arrow, which takes me to the last post in the thread, then I scroll up a bit until I see the last post I remember and read downward.

Thanks for the tip, KirkS. I hadn't noticed the blue arrow before. It's still a work around, but probably the best solution.
