Greetings! I have a couple questions that I would appreciate your help with. #1. What is the best way to remove used stamps from their envelopes? #2. What is the best way to dry them after removal. Thanking you in advance for your advice. Clete

For removal either soaking in very warm water or Stamp lift which is available at any Stamp supply dealer. For drying, the best I've seen so far are the Showguard desert magic drying books. If you're planning to do a lot then I'd recommend getting 2, they run around $8 for the 8x11 plus shipping.

Welcome Clete, Hope you enjoy your stay.

Stamp removal is rather specialised,
and it may pay you to see the whole story.

You may wish to try the search option here

Click on "search"
type in "Soak" (without commas)
then click "search in" and selct Subject only

You will see heaps of information
on all sorts of periods and types of stamps

Remember, the highest hiearchy for a stamp
is one left on cover, make sure your cover
does not hold special interest that may make it valuable before soaking.

just soak the stamps cut out of the envelope in water, allow them to settle there some 30-45 minutes, then remove the stamps carefully out of the envelope paper, dry the stamps, after drying try to place the stamps in a book, to flatten them, very simple and very cost effective. Care must be taken while removing the stamp, the hinges must be intact.

warm wishes.

Here are some "Refresher Courses" from Linn's -- there's a lot of repetition, but worth reading through. The first covers whether to clip and soak; the others cover how to soak.
