On my to do list, sure hope I get to it, cause I am colorblind and spend half my time waiting for my wife to help me try and sort out some hues and boy doesn't age raise the dickens with the actual color' so actual stamps of the era has always been on my to do list but so far it is still on my to didn't. Thanks for the wheel though, it's great idea.

This is a fantastic method especially for color variations within an issue. This is one a friend of mine got at auction for the 1851-57 3 cent

Fascinating Russ,
we can see how the scanner lets us down in this instance.
I have found with India and Aust KG5's sideface
the physical stamp in rows are the best way
to determine shades.

Rod, my understanding is that 2 collectors made these about 1920 by cutting stamps in half. I have seen a few of these come up for auction but they are a bit pricey for me. It is a shame to think of the number of stamps that were cut up but it is a great color chart.

Hi there,
Do you think they cut them in half so that each collector got an original copy?

skilo54, yes. This was a common practice as I have seen several of these at auction. Today we would never think of doing this as the stamps on those 2 pages would cat for over $2000. But these were made in the early 1900's when these stamps were selling for pennies each.
Edit: I know of at least 4 sets make by Dr. Chase.
