I picked up the "Go Green" stamps today at the post office. I don't think they are "hideous"; on the other hand, the post office has certainly issued better looking stamps. While it can be deciphered from the scans provided previously in this post, when looking at the actual stamps, I keep being drawn to the first stamp because I question the appearance of what looks to be BLUE pumpkins or squash or gourds or something similar (outside the basket). It seems to me there is no reason why they couldn't have colorized those a bit more accurately, especially since they are already using brown and yellow and orange colors in other parts of the sheetlet.

Just my two cents (er, 44 cents) ... No, wait! $7.04 for the entire sheet!

I got my "Go Green" stamps today. While talking to the clerk, (yes, in small post offices they still will talk to you! LOL) she said that they already received complaints about the green stamp:

Some people think it is just a sticker and ask why they have to pay for 16 stamps when there are "only" 15.

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.

Your blow up of that central stamp raises another interesting question. Have you ever seen a dog with two different colored green legs? Or a yellow nose? (I guess we chalk it up to artistic license.)

Well, look at the people on the other stamps. Some have eyes and other's don't! LOL

I've driven behind this character... no eyes!

Definitely not the USPS's best effort.....

I thought of Marconi when I read this thread. Good placement Rod!
(Note: he is green because he just crossed over the ocean in the background on his way to Signal Hill in St. John's, Newfoundland shown in the artwork. Or he just had too much Newfie Screech (a local drink).)

Didn't notice that at first. Well, if you really want to get technical about it, some of the "hands" shown on these stamps are drawn with fingernails -- and others have no fingernails!

For all of us being critical of these "Go Green" stamps, here's the one to blame ... a profile of the designer/artist:

wt1,
Interesting website. Thanks for posting!

I think I'm going to recycle my "Go Green" stamps on some envelopes.

I have to be honest and say that I like this issue. The design is a bit kitschy but the idea is in the right direction, and frankly if that is the type of design that people will go back to the PO for, then the PO really can't afford to print anything otherwise at times like these. I will buy a sheet!

I am still on the fence, but agree with your comments.

It's going to look a little
out of place in an US album years to come.
Time is running out, we need to get serious with
recycling, goodness, it's not that difficult.

The stamps do sort of grow on you. I think I like them.

Did anyone check out the website provided by wt1? I was going to subscribe until I got the part about agreeing with their policy. That is an almost scary agreement. For heaven's sake, Congress was dragged into it.
