.....for a while. I promised my hubby that after the 2,700 stamps I just won on ebay that I would lay off ebay for a while --(why do people call it won when it's really bought!) ha! Anyway, how do you attack a pile of stamps like that-- sort, sort, sort --what do you sort them into--a bowl, a cup,--what works for you? Do you get to the point you can't remember which ones you have or don't have? YIKES!
Do you ever get to the point you don't want to go to family functions--that you'd rather stay home and sort stamps and put them in their albums???? How come nobody understands us stamp collectors??

Thanks!
Gussyboy1

I start with cluttering up the dining room table with as many piles that will fit, then gradually I end up with shoeboxes. From shoebox to glassine envelopes........ Wow, 2700 stamps, you will be busy for a while.

Besides cracking me up with his Phil jokes, Bob seems to know where all the good links are!

BTW did that penguin get Phil the other day? He seems to have been missing since. Hope all's well with him. Maybe he's still working to pay for filling up his truck?

Congrats on the win! As far as sorting, you can only sort them one at a time! I haven't looked at the link, but I'd start by sorting them into country piles then working them down into years or decades if possible. I'm lucky - all modern German stamps have the year of issue on them.

As far as the family goes, I would rather work on my stamps than sit around with them most of the time.

Here is a photo of part of the stamps I bought on ebay.
I'm sure they were gone thru--for sure, but may turn up
some interesting stuff I don't have. At least I hope so!

Looks like there will be lots of extras in all of that, but I'm trying to teach two of my 7 granddaughters how to collect stamps and have their albums going. It will be exciting to see how a 9 and 7 year old react to this hobby! ha
Long live stamp collecting!

Hey Gussy

I sit at the dining room table and sort by country. Then put them in envelopes (or in some cases small boxes) until I have a chance to go through each country.
I had a ball sorting throught the 15,000 I bought in early spring.

Gussy,

Look at ANTIGUA in your new catalogs. If any country can hold the interest
of 2 young collectors, it is high on the list! Lots of Disney and other characters
on the stamps ( it seems Antigua doesn't worry about copyright infringement
