Hello all, I am new to this site and I have a simple question.

I do not collect stamps but I collect guns, certain types of which require a federal tax stamp each time they are transferred. These are known as National Firearms Act stamps after the 1934 law of the same name. There are two kinds: one costs $200 and the other $5. The more common $200 stamp is gray/blue in color. The $5 stamp is a pale red or pink.

If I ever decided to sell the items that came with these stamps, I would no longer need the stamp itself. So my question is: is the stamp itself of any value to collectors? I thought there might be some small demand for them, since these stamps seem to be a little unusual. But I know little about these things.

Although I am not a stamp collector per se I do find the hobby interesting and I might come back occasionally to ask a question or two.

First of all, welcome to the SCF web site!

While I don't actively collect the items shown, I do note that the Scott Specialized Catalog of US Stamps has a section devoted to "Firearms Transfer Tax Stamps", which I believe are the ones you have shown. According to the catalog they do have value to a collector.

A couple of words of caution, though: The Scott Catalog suggests that the gum used on the more recent varieties of these stamps were either taped or glued and therefore are not water soluble and may result in damage if you attempt to soak them off paper. Further, the stamps are said to be worth 25% to 50% more if they are left on the license to which they were originally affixed.

Hope this is helpful information.
