I have a couple of questions regarding SC 378's
According to Scott's Specialized (2009) it lists the following :

Hinged $32.50
Never hinged $75.00
Block of 4 2mm spacing $145.00
Block of 4 3mm Spacing $140.00

My questions are about the blocks.

1. Are these values for hinged or never hinged ?
2. 2mm or 3mm spacing....between what ? What measurement needs to be taken ?

Thanks.

I imagine that it mean hinged at that price.

"2mm v. 3 mm" is based on the spacing BETWEEN STAMPS.

From frame to frame ? Should the measurement be the same top stamp to bottom stamp and side to side ?

Price is for hinged, Scott does not price NH. The measurement is edge of design to edge of design horizontally. Vertical spacing was normally maintained at 2.8mm

2mm (Scott 358)

3mm (Scott 380)

Thanks. The reason I am asking these questions was to put a catalog value to these

Scott's does not list anything for a block of 6. These are never hinged with original gum and 3mm spacing I think.

If I am remembering correctly, the PO continued to have problems with shrinkage of the sheets and that shrinkage affecting the perforating of the sheets. The 2 and 3 mm spacings were trials to see if the spacing could improve the perforating of the sheets properly.. I don't think all denominations had both the 2 and 3 mm spacing.

rohumpy, you are correct the spacing combination was tried on many sheet and coil stamps from 1909-1912. Since the imperfs were normally made from regualr plates both spacings are also found on some imperfs. Both spacings are found on 331, 332, 333, 334, 335, 343, 344, 346, 352, 353, 354, 357, 358, 367, 368, 369, 374, 375, 376, 377, 378, 379, 380, 381, 383, 384, 387, 388, 394, 395.
Stalzer, Your's are 3mm. Scott does not price these in block of 6 or as NH block of 4. Approximate value is calculated as 2x NH singles + block of 4 3mm + 170 (4x42.5) NH premium.
edit: Typo
