I have been re-reading this thread as I too am off to my first stamp event, next weekend! Childcare arranged (thanks, Mum!), a day to myself to do anything at all is a rare thing!Just need to search under the mattress carefully for stray £100. notes to boost my budget...
I will be going to the Scottish Philatelic Congress in Perth (that's Perth, Scotland, not the upsidedown one ). I don't suppose its very big compared with others across the globe, but I am looking forward to it hugely
My aim is to look and learn rather than weaken and spend... How long will that resolution last
I will try to take some pics, and will file my SCF report on my return.

Have a nice day at the Philatelic Congress. You may spend more that you expect but it's not every weekend. It usually happen when I start telling myself "I will never see this again". It's a very exciting experience the first time. Daniel

My suggestion is to take a list of what you're looking for. When you arrive, make one complete circuit of the place, looking each dealer over to figure out who has what. Do not buy on the first circuit. Make notes of general prices, etc. Then, once you know what's available, you can go plan a buying strategy and start making purchases. Otherwise, you'll invariably find someone else down the line who had the same or better stamp at better prices.

Stampgal,

Have lots of fun. There will be about 40 dealers on both days and some excellent displays.
Which day is the 'Childcare' arranged for ?

If you can, but don't go to any trouble, possibly pick me up a Commemorative Postcard of the event ? I would be most grateful. I will pay all costs of course.
A special postcard is being produced jointly by the Glasgow Thematic Society and the Strathclyde Postcard Club for the event.

Enjoy and am looking forward to the pics.

I am going on Friday, and I should be there for opening at 11am. I can stay til around 3pm. LB, of course I will pick you up a commemorative postcard!
I will try to think about what to look out for, but I'm sure it will be overwhelming at first. Budget not looking good - no £100. notes found under the mattress, so will have to raid kids' piggy banks

Is there?

Thanks and email sent.
