Wot? The American revolution in English orthography? Have the Americans abolished the past participle? |

That's what happens when you have a republic Tony, no need for the Queen's english. If you get your way, and Tony Abott becomes president, we'll have "umm, umm, ah, ah," as a valid part of speech.

Heaven forfend Tony Abbott as President. The only person I can think of worthy of the post is ... modesty prevents ...
And I will insist on 'led' as the past participle of 'lead'. I will work it into every state address I give.
Incidentally, I've always admired the programme set out by Père Ubu after his coup d'etat against the King of Poland: "First I'll steal all the money, then I'll kill everybody, and then I'll go away" in Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi. |

I have a real one somewhere Jeff, I'll try and dig it out.
Curious as to that little "A" hiding in the design.

certainly a different design than the one you started with but it sure is a beauty. Interesting design. I recognize the crown of course and the Garter belt but there are two different types of swords/dirks?. Don't place them as any of the royal swords or rods. Anyone else know more? - Jeff |

Different stamps different values.
different stamps different taxes maybe.
The rod with the maltese cross is an impression of the royal sceptre (crown jewels) The other is the sword of state.
All 3 items (including St Edwards Crown) are part of the British Crown Jewels (16 items)

Wasn't thinking sceptre, ok, and that's a crummy representation of the sword of state, but I will go with you. Thanks for the scan, they are a wonder to look at and study. Makes me want to go back again, very badly. |

I have a British tax stamp from 1751, it doesn't look like those but I'm guessing that the Tax stamp being discussed was sometime after, closser to 1775? |

Beautiful stamps with great effect! Thanks for sharing. (Rod, wasn't "Tyre" a Phoenician sea port and city state? ) |
