Gentlemen:

I collect blocks of mint stamps, displaying them on Hagner style stock sheets.

For large blocks I need the single strip / whole page variety. My problem is that the mounts tend to open as the page is turned. This has potentially disasterous consequences for the contents!

Does anyone have a recommendation on how to prevent this? (without resorting to "Sellotape" that is!)

Welcome Troy,
nice to see you boosting the UK contingent,
here on SCF,

Page protector sheets not to your liking?
slip the Hagner inside.
Not an ideal solution, but better than the grunge tape.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

I use mounts for just my blocks, but if I have larger strips or whole pages of stamps, I use a "Supersafe Mint Sheet Book" from Vidiforms Co in Congers, NY. If that is not big enough, I buy some archival plastic sheets from SUBWAY, that will hold them quite nicely (but they are a litte pricey). Hope that helps a little.

Vario single strip sheets are sealed on 3 sides and are excellent for keeping larger items in place.

Yes, I have no difficulty with the vario single pocket pages. The pocket, as Londonbus says, is sealed on three sides. If anything there is some slight difficulty in getting large blocks into the pocket.

Many thanks for your replies
I am keen to stay with the Hagner system; Any options for keeping single strip sheets but for making the contents more secure?

I suppose lightly hinging them to the backing cards is out of the question?

I don't have any Hagners with fewer than 3 strips, and even the 3s don't feel too secure to me. But I'm a Vario user, and it probably comes down to what one is used to. I can only imagine that the 1-strips would be a real problem...

not helpful, I know...

Following along with a previous comment, this is a scan of a single strip Hagner inside an archive sheet protector which cost only pennies. Look close and you should see the second set of 3-ring holes on the far left from the sheet protector. Added bonus is that these turn much easier in three ring binders.

Sheet protectors would probably be your best bet, even if they aren't the most attractive things in the world. Myself, I always wondered why Hanger choose to seal the mylar on the top and bottom of the 1 pocket sheets as it seems like to the sides might have been a better solution. As for other ideas? Perhaps you could try placing the items in mounts (expensive) which will really let you wedge the piece in on the bottom seam all without damaging the item. I do this for my higher value stamps and find that they stay put much better.

Gentlemen, thank you for your replies which have been most useful.
Can please I move onto a closely related question:
Still on the subject of black Hagner stock sheets, can you recommend a suitable & neat way of appending a description of the stamps? Please allow for the fact that I am no calligraphist!

I have seen, but don't know where to get them, stock sheets that have a clear flap that is the full size of the sheet and opens upwards.
