bfranton, I don't think ANY country has issued a series of male nudes!

I wonder what the UPU would say about it, if someone did?

Yes indeed.

Actually the word Wartende means more or less "She's waiting"

lithograving, do you know what the occasion was for the first Austrian stamp?

The multicoloured flag suggests the Vienna annual gay parade? I can't remember what it's called but it was on when I was there in '95.

Why would the Austrian stamp have inscriptions in English? "young boy" "vienna austria"

Jim, the stamp was one of an annual series of "Nude on Stamp"
featuring modern Austrian artists.

More here on Austria Post website.http://www.post.at/eshop/philatelie...?prod=206350 which was
the source of both images I posted.

@rohumpy

I also find it odd regarding the English on this stamp and
other Austrian ones but it shows again how universal English
has become. Another possibility is that it sells more stamps.

Austria has issued a number of stamps in the last few years
where the country name Österreich has been changed to Austria.
Actually that is the Latin name for the country and appeared on coins
during Imperial times.
