Spanishmoss: First time I've seen that done on a U.S. cover. I've seen overlapping stamps on many a African, Caribbean or Latin American cover since they only might have access to low valued stamps or due to inflation rates, but that's a first U.S. example for me to see. Good luck on soaking. The sticky part of the adhesive will be affixed to the stamp underneath so I don't know what one has to do.
Kirk--- It was the post-mistress that affixed the stamps. My sister lives in a tiny town of 200 and they must not have a label-maker thing (can't think of the name of it right now). Everything I receive from there only has stamps. I have seen the post-mistress weigh an item, then write the amount of postage due on the package. She then sets the package aside until she has time to affix the correct amount of stamps.
Battlestamps--- I might take it to one of our stamp club members who has some of that volatile chemical everyone is talking about to remove newer stamps. I'd try it myself, but don't like keeping stuff like that around with two boys in the house.
