I only posted the original message and link to inform especially since ebay has not informed us direcetly through any email. Not sure when they were going to spring the surprise, but it was posted on their website.

I'm seasonally unemployed. I cannot archaeologically dig when the ground is frozen thus Ebay/Delcampe is my alternative means and keeps me busy.

I don't think any of us are happy with ebay's upcoming move. It has nothing to do with curbing some sellers who charge too much for shipping. It will just cause more sellers to inflate shipping to cover the added costs and pass them down to the buyers.

What can we do? We can make our opinions and words heard by ebay. Send them an email. We can also vote with our listings. Take them elsewhere. The buyers will follow. Let your buyers know they are listing elsewhere. Other ideas?

This year we're seeing the end to once giants Blockbuster and Borders. The former treated customers like dirt and the latter was too expensive. ebay is the giant in the online auction industry, but only because they stand on our shoulders. Time to lighten my load. Delcampe and Bidstart are a lot more comitted to fair play for both the seller and buyer and more intune with innovation.

I must respectfully disagree with you as to why Blockbuster and Borders have failed ... two words: Netflix and Kindle.

And both Bidstart and Delcampe are great for our hobby. If more and more people start using these venues, ebay might feel a pinch, if they do it will force them to relook at things. Competition is always good for consumers in that it makes the selling entities compete for our business which drives fees down.

Rileysan: People were pulled to Netflix and Kindle (& Amazon), but people were also pushed away from Blockbuster and Borders. The former had a Draconian late fee system that resulted in class action lawsuits, availibity of new realeases was paltry at best and customer service was downright bad. Borders was just too expensive. $20 for a CD when Amazon had it for $10-12. No brainer. In history, when one studies immmigration/emmigration you examine push and pull factors. You can use the same ideas to companies and customer bases. The wrongs of Blockbuster and Borders have pushed their customers away while the others new companies are pulling them in through technological innovation and lower costs.

Same thing will be happening with ebay and Delcampe/Bidstart. The more ebay decides to jack up fees, the more sellers will be pulled to Delcampe and Bidstart.

Katchem_ash - I think perhaps you should try finding a job these days. I think perhaps you should pay for me to get an education so I can get a good job. I think perhaps you should pay for me to move out of the house. I think perhaps you should do a lot of things that I can't type here... but am willing to tell you to your face.
