Londonbus1 said : That cover is one of many that have been cancelled-to-Order. And it is not even addressed. It is most likely worth about a ½ of it's original cost, if that.Very nice to look at, but expensive.

O.K. I can see that. I'm a recent returnee to stamps after a long time away. I did get the Royal Mail FDCs at one stage as it was about the only way to get them. Then, thank the stars, I found the likes of Benham etc. To my way of thinking, Tony Buckingham was the closest thing to a philatelic God. On returning to stamps I saw on ebay the "true" value of the Tallent House efforts...mostly in the 1.25 pound or less bracket (probably originally bought for 6-8 pounds?) That joint issue is something I thought I might have until closer inspection. At times I do accept the Tallent House FDcs ... stretch my standards to accept that the FDC has gone thru the UK postal system after a fashion but that issue is a cheat in my view and not for me. Luckily my standards are like a flag and can be lowered at will but not in this case.

Scotz,

I too have loads of RM FDC's. They are beautiful but sadly worthless.
I cannot sell them, no one wants them. I have some coin covers too that RM are still selling at £15-£18 a throw. You cannot get rid of them for $6 ! .
I stopped after a while when I began to learn a bit. But it cost me. However, I am not in it for the money and some covers are beautiful...the definitives especially.
But the stamps are all CTO's so soaking them for a used collection is not an option.

Oh well.

Years ago I saw a fellow on ebay dot uk that was selling the soaked-off FDC stamps as sets and people were buying them. Not for the amount you had to pay for a FDC though.

So you're saying that I won't be able to pay for my daughter's
wedding with the proceeds I expect to get from the sale of
all my Canadian FDC.
But they're all in Lighthouse double sided Deluxe First Day Cover
albums.

Well, you can sell the album. That might be worth a few bucks :-)

So.... Nells250 asked : WHY do some countries print stamps of American pop stars, or American presidents?

It is my belief that a lot of those countries use Agencies for their stamp production and those agencies seem to have carte-blanche to produce what they want. So... pop stars stamps will sell to fans of the stars. Thematic collectors will buy the Presidents or whatever. I assume the countries involved have lost control of the stamp production but why worry when they get a cut of the profits from the "extras". Look on ebay and you find many bogus stamps supposedly coming from African countries for instance. Some are adult content topics! Seems many printers are producing something resembling "stamps" of any subject, personality, genre and they seem to sell.
