Mike, what does a 500 sq. ft. approx. studio go for a month in a "reasonable" living area of NYC?

Jim...I have appox 400 sqft here in Brooklyn. Located about midway between Coney Island and Prospect Park. Safe and quiet as NYC areas go. About a 45 min subway ride to Times Sq in Manhattan. Unfurnished would run around $800-1000 a month, not including elect, gas or cable. Heat is steam and included in rent along with water.

Wow, $1500 would get you a condo on the Ouachita River with a view of downtown, or a 3 BR - 2 BA house on the lake here in West Monroe!

Yep, it is expensive here in THE CITY. Spent 9 months in 2000 in San Fran. Had a furnished studio there (paid by a client I was doing some consulting work for). About 2 blocks from the Pyramid building going towards the ferry landing. The client paid the bills for it, was $1800/month when I got there and were going for $2200/ month when I left. Planning on returning to the North Carolina area in 2-3 years. Was there for over 25 years before we returned to NYC.

Yeah, I was just wondering. The desert is relatively cheap with all of the repros
sitting around. I have rental property in Flagstaff,AZ. and the 550 sq.ft. studios are going for $750 with utilities. Near the Univ. so not too bad to rent out. We planned to retire to that area and may still do so someday.

i am a hundred miles up he Hudson from New York City....apartments are a thousand a month and up..an average house 1500-1800 a month.....rentals are in short supply here in the boondocks..i guess you could rent an older mobile home..but you still have all kinds of fees per month ..anyone making a good wage is taking the train to the city to do it..men make around 11 dollars an hour local..i do not know how they pay their rent, groceries, car insurance...either Grandma helps them out or the wife has a job with health insurance !

Phil...exactly why I like my current situation. Have a good building and a great super, he keeps everything clean and fresh! The daughter and grandson are moving down to NC from VA in the summer, the future son-in-law went there 2 months ago on a new job and is house hunting. Will let them get settled and hopefully we will follow in the future. Wonder if Bobgggg will follow me???
