So I've purchase a number of Confederate States stamps over the past couple of weeks. At left is a #11, which I took delivery of today, with two #12. The 12s are dark blue and green blue, but with out comparison I'm a little stumped about the #11. Is it a regular blue or the milky blue? Then when you get to the #12s, there will also be a light blue to contend with. Is there a reliable colour chart out there so I don't have to just keep buying and hoping for the best?

From the scans on the website and yours here, I would say Light Blue is the closest. Milky Blue follows a close second.
Never easy to tell of course, from the computer screen !

Or here is one (The darker one) that I can't seem to match any color with. The used one with the Sumter South Carolina PM I believe is Blue. |

Excellent Marko, check out the site listed above, it's a great help. Always great revisiting these posts. I've rescanned the images (I'm better at it now) and added a new used #11 I've purchased since (second from left). Comparing them I think London was correct with his response. I think the newly purchased used is a blue while the stamp on the left in the picture (also from the original post) is actually a milky blue. Always best to have something to compare to, I suppose. |

For my education would someone tell me if Stallzer's stamp on the left (the Sumpter cancel) is CSA Scott#11 or Scott#12. My old 1976 Scott catalogue only mentions blue and variations of blue, one being "greenish blue". My old eyes seem to see green or perhaps bluish green. |

That is a 12. You can tell primarily by the faint line around the outside at the corners. There are also slight variations in the portrait (note the difference in Jeff's beard) and the frame itself (a little more elaborate than the 11) |

Jamesw: thanks for pointing that out. They are nice colours - sort of remind me of the US Santa Fe stamp (hope I have that right) |

I think your 11 (yes it is) is cobalt blue as listed on the jklstamps.com site posted above. Although it is difficult to tell from a scan on the computer. Interestingly this cobalt hue isn't listed in Scott's, not that I've seen anyway. Nice colour. |

BeeSee: your CSA Scott#11 should also be on the "clear cancellations" thread. It's a great one. |
