Stamp Moves I Regret

We must all have them...a few years back at Orapex a dealer had a beautiful stock card of Swiss Military stamps for 40 bucks ! for some reason I balked..when I went back they were gone ..a stamp collection for 40 bucks ! Individually they would probably cost me 4 times that

Returned to the table after 1 circuit (10 mins?)
and they were gone.

I counterbalance that with the horrid thought of how broke
I would be if I had bought everything else that took my eye.

Selling my Great Britain on almost a whim. Thought I needed the money for something totally frivolous. Now to replace the 19th century issues is prohibitive. Have you seen the prices?? Plus, I had the 20th century almost complete up until that time in the late 1970's.

If I could only go back and kick myself in the rear.

Every time I sell a collection I feel afterward I made a bad move. It mostly because I never get back all the money I spent for the collection. I never saw stamp collecting as a way to make money but still I work hard for the money I spend in my collections. I sold so far to a dealer and to a member of the stampclub. Now Philb thread make me think about my selling experience but most of the time I forget about that. I love my collections and when I sell it's because I need quick money otherwise I would have probably kept them.

Phil, it is odd that you mention Switzerland.

I once had a chance to buy a Swiss perfin album put out by the Swiss government for $2.00!. At the time (this was in 1962), I wasn't sure if I was really in to perfins, so, I too balked at the idea. I sure wish I had taken advantage of that offer.

In 1987 I was at a show in Charlotte, NC where I found a confederate cover with a CSA #7 and a streight line "Rome, GA" postmark for $40.00! I had just got there and it was a good portion of my budget so I passed on it. I still regret that move.
