Rileysan, I was thoroughly alarmed by your comment that Windows 7 didn't have Paint. I use it every day to edit images, and I've been thinking of moving up from XP. I went to the MS site, and Microsoft say that it is included in Windows 7. Perhaps it's a question of the version of Windows 7 you're using. I'd certainly be interested to know!

Windows 7 does include Paint. Here's the evidence...

Hmm ... I clearly must have missed something. I am a recent convert to Windows 7 as it came on my new PC and have had to relearn the ins and outs. I doubt there's any issue with versions (EG - home, pro, etc) so I take full responsibility for my ignorance. I'll look for it when I get home from work

Paint.net is a great simple photo editing program and it is free.

No worries, Riley.

It should be in the menu somewhere -- I think mine is under Accessories.

If all else fails, look for the actual executable file -- it should be in Windows\System32\mspaint.exe

Just click the windows logo and type "paint" in the search box. If it doesn't show up you'll have to use the "Add/Remove Windows components" in the control panel.

I still find the whole picture upload to this site hit and miss. I'm scanning and using Photoshop to resize, no problem there. But sometimes I can upload an image that's over 100, sometimes it won't let me and I've got to reduce it, and then it ends up the size of a...well...postage stamp.
I'm always thrilled when I preview a posting and the image has come out a good size. Like Christmas every day!

I scan at a minimum of 600dpi for detail, and 1200dpi for varieties. I use FastStone Resizer, which is a hit-and-miss process, but fast.

This scan is at 600dpi, has been reduced to 97kb, and I was allowed to load it

This is the same scan via photobucket and is twice the size (190kb)

No difference until you click on them!
