The stamps of all foreign addressed mail that passed through the NY post office 1871 to 1877 were cancelled in the shape of fancy stars and designed usually in a circle. There are about 100 different shapes.  |

All in all, though, a curious melange (do adopt your word of the day) of cancellations, and a GT perfin (Guaranty Trust Corp in NY, NY, USA).  |

Ah thanks,
mine was from Minkus book 1951,
so they found a further 100 in the last 60 years.
Smauggie definitely a melange (spoken with french accent),
hard to read that as a star config.
