Are these uncommon? This is the first I've seen of one...I'm wondering if my eyes have just been passing over the regular overprinted stamps and not noticing the revenue overprint...

Barefoot 2008 values the 1R. with sans-serif REVENUE opt at £10.00.

Issued in 1918.

First one I have seen.

Thank you very much. I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the new Barefoot, which the website lists as "early 2011."

And Gibbons rates the basic stamp without the REVENUE overprint, SG 11, at only £2.25. For once, you're better off with a revenue

Jeff, the underlying Turkish stamp is pretty neat, itself, even without the overprints.

I believe this depicts the Sweet Waters of Europe, described at "A Glossary of Historical Place Names in Turkey" as:

"Sweet Waters of Europe and Asia: Historical resort areas in Istanbul ("Tatl#305;su" in Turkish). The Sweet Waters of Europe were the two streams that empty into the Haliç (Golden Horn), while the Sweet Waters of Asia were the two streams that empty into the Bosphorus near Kandilli, where Küçüksu Kasr#305; is located (Freely, 1998)."
