Wrong Caduceus - Uruguay Help ID Please?

I found several overprints like these, but none that fit correctly. Can someone help with these Uruguay Scott number. Rod, I think these are the wrong Caduceus that you were talking about a week or so ago. Is that right? Thanks as always - Jeff

That is more or less a proper caduceus. The rod with two snakes and wings is the caduceus, a symbol often associated with Hermes. One common usage on stamps is as a part of the symbology of navigation and commerce.

The single-snake rod, with no wings, is the rod of Asclepius (which is the traditional symbol of medicine). There is a lot of confusion on this point, at least in the U.S., where the caduceus is often used in the medical context.

In the US, part of the confusion arises from the early use of the Caduceus as the insignia for the US Army Medical Corps.
